action has grown stale. Shooting the bullet sponge zombies lacks the
satisfying immediacy that Call of Duty thrives on, and dealing with
their lurching, single minded attacks grows dull even as they get faster
and more numerous. The new maps feature veins of fire that flare up
when you cross them and obscure your vision, adding more visual sludge
to the already murky environments. Perhaps the fire is intended as some
kind of platforming challenge jumping frequently seems to be the best
way to avoid it but hopping around doesn't make the environments any
less ugly or the enemies any less boring.
Though
zombies mode is stagnating, the rest of Black Ops II is lively, and
it's great to see some shifting in the familiar structure. Developer
Treyarch's storytelling prowess has once again resulted in an engaging,
exciting campaign, and the addition of league play to the online
multiplayer arena is an intriguing change that could reinvigorate the
formula that has endured for so long. By reaching forward while
remaining rooted in the things it does so well, Black Ops II offers a
great shooter experience.

The biggest oversight amongst all these porting issues is that of controls.Resident Evil 4 doesn't support mouse controls, though it does offer a mildly clumsy keyboard-only scheme. Plenty of console-centric games play better with a gamepad, but there wasn't even an attempt to implement decent PC controls here. To experience the game the way it's meant to be played, you need to plug in a gamepad. Whichever method you choose, the controls present an issue during the famous context sensitive moments that require a few split-second button presses. If you end up using the keyboard controls, make sure to memorize which key is button 1, which key is button 2, and so on. The same issue exists with a controller, though it's a bit easier to get the button presses right because the in-game diagrams are tailored toward game pad users.
The fundamental combat is where the game shines most. Your arsenal consists of pistols, shotguns, rifles and more, with every weapon producing credible results. Popping pitchfork-wielding villagers will cause them to drop their weapons. Or you can shoot them in the knees to make them momentarily fall to the ground. Because ammunition is not terribly plentiful, being able to handle a crowd of shambling psychopaths with as few shots as possible is a main priority. You've always got a knife as a last resort, but unless you want to take a chunk of damage, it's better to keep your distance.

Given the current benchmark of 3D football games, there's simply no place for such rudimentary and inexplicably processor hungry graphics. The classic 2D match display is still preferable for aesthetics and functionality, allowing you to cheer for those small, colored circles one moment and curse them as fatherless heathens the next; punch the air when they score and slump head in hands when those awful words "But it won't count" appear in the commentary bar. Raw emotion though is what football is all about, and Football Manager delivers it in spades.
Higher resolutions offer more screen real estate to display stats and messages.
It can be frustrating when things start to go wrong; you'll be tearing your hair out trying to understand how your side managed six wins in a row, yet all of a sudden, it can't find the net with the exact same tactics and starting lineup. There’s an occasional sensation that the game is playing you, that if you start doing too well the wheels will inevitably come off. Then, just as you’re on the brink of hitting reset it throws you a bone. To misquote the immortal words of Michael Corleone, "Just when you thought you were out, it pulls you back in."
There's a little bit more of just about every element compared to the 2011 version. There is better scouting and more interaction, as well as lots of tweaks and streamlines, but there's nothing monumental. It really depends on how important it is to you to start off the game with all of this year's transfers in place, bearing in mind that a season into the game, everything will change anyway. Football Manager remains the only football management sim you need; just don't expect an easy ride, especially if this is your first dalliance. If you stick with it, though, it could change your life.

result in some wonky and unpredictable moments. These issues can cause some
frustration, but the satisfaction of executing a timely counterattack or a
powerful choke slam is undeniable. WWE All Stars captures the excitement and
spectacle of the actual WWE better than any game in recent memory.
With all these powerful attacks flying around,
being able to defend yourself is important. Blocking is effective, but the key
element to a strong defense is reversals. Whether you are being struck or
grappled, there's almost always a moment when you can tap the appropriate
reversal button to turn the tables. Sometimes, your opponent gets a chance to
reverse your reversal, but no matter who ends up powerbombing whom, it is
crucial to get the hang of countering attacks. The timing is very tricky,
however, and tapping the button multiple times all but ensures your attempt
will fail, so you have to nail it. This finicky precision is frustrating, and
there's no tutorial to help you get the hang of it. Timing is also crucial in
determining whose strike or grapple takes priority, but some moves can preempt
others. WWE All Stars leaves it up to you to learn the ins and outs of its
fighting system, and though the basics are easy to grasp, you have to figure
out important elements like timing and move priority for yourself.
Yet while you're striving to master these
elements, don't be surprised if some weird stuff happens that disrupts your
sense of positioning and timing. The exaggerated physics are like a meddling
ringside manager--they can make things much more entertaining, but they can
also mess things up. You might be grappled from an improbably far distance or
be bounced around the ring at strange angles by a powerful strike. And though
you can enter and exit the ring at will, the ropes often act as an invisible wall
when characters are getting knocked around. Fortunately, these strange
happenings don't derail the action; they just add a bit of unwelcome
inconsistency.
You can pit up to four wrestlers of your
choosing against each other in exhibition matches, but aside from dividing up
the teams or adding a steel cage, there isn't much in the way of match
customization. WWE All Stars has two different scenario modes that give your
matches some context and let you unlock new wrestlers and outfits. Path of
Champions sets forth a challenge from a big personality, like The Undertaker,
to meet him in the ring at a big event. As you work your way through the
matches leading up to the event, you get a few cutscenes of your opponent
talking trash, but brash attitudes are largely absent from WWE All Stars. The
other scenario mode, Fantasy Warfare, pits two wrestlers against each other
based on their personalities or skills, so you'll see Andre the Giant versus
The Big Show in a big man match, while Mr. Perfect and The Miz square off to
